In Egypt, Amazon has replaced e-commerce company Souq.com with its own website.
In 2017, the global marketplace site bought the Middle Eastern retailer Souq.com and has been rebranding it across the region since then.
Existing Souq.com customer identities, wish lists, orders, delivery locations, payment methods, and customer support enquiries in Egypt will all be transferred to new Amazon.eg accounts starting on Wednesday.
The announcement comes a day after Amazon constructed a new warehouse in the Sharqia Governorate’s 10th of Ramadan City, bringing Amazon’s total investments to 1 billion Egyptian pounds ($63.6 million).
According to Al Arabiya, the company employs over 3,000 people and operates more than 15 distribution stations around the country, according to vice president for the region Ronaldo Mouchawar.
