SSC Capital, a Dar es Salaam-based business and investment advisory firm, has announced the completion of its $5 million Mbadala Impact Fund I, which will support early-stage startups that have strong financial vaibility and help solve Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) challenges.
According to Salum Awadh, the CEO of SSC Capital, the$5m Mbadala Impact Fund I will invest in 20–25 seed-stage startups with ticket sizes ranging from $50k — $150k.
“We will start investing by June 2022,” Awadh said.
The fund, which claims to be sector-agnostic, hinted that its first investments will be in the financial services, healthcare, education, agribusiness, and technology sectors.

The fund will focus on East African early-stage startups with a scalable business strategy that have been in operation for at least one year post-revenue.
In addition, the startup must meet one or more Sustainable Development Goals and have a solid team. In particular, the startup must be innovative.
