South African Analytics Startup Locstat Bags New Funding From Grindstone Ventures

Locstat, a Cape Town-based advanced analytics startup, has received an undisclosed amount of money from Grindstone Ventures.

Locstat, founded in 2016, helps businesses to gain previously unknown insights through their graph-based AI solution, which analyzes the link between data points and beyond, enriching the data set utilized for analytics and informing improved decision making. The technology aids in real-time activities such as fraud detection, customer journey mapping, including customer 360°, customer segmentation and recommender systems, rules engine, and geographic analytics. Furthermore, this is done with a light touch, with no major additional overheads.

The actual strength, according to co-founder Sanjay Daya, is in the graph-based AI functionality, which transforms hidden data into meaningful insights. It accomplishes this by analyzing the links between data points and data sets. “This is where the true ‘data value’ lies — and this is what graph database capabilities achieves so effectively,” Daya continues.

Locstat’s technology aggregates data from many sources into a unified environment, allowing businesses to gain real-time insights into their operations that would otherwise go unnoticed. Locstat employs AI to supplement graph technology, allowing the system to focus on relationships rather than data points, which is impossible with conventional database systems. This is what distinguishes Locstat from the present market solutions: their capacity to deliver holistic insights into a firm, allowing business owners to ask more difficult inquiries.

Locstat is a Grindstone graduate, a structured entrepreneurship development program that assists high-growth, innovation-driven businesses. The program assisted the founders in establishing the structure required for long-term growth and attracting the necessary funds. Being in a connection with Grindstone, according to the Locstat founders, connected them to a friendly ecosystem that nurtured their scale. The Grindstone Programme, as well as the founders’ shared value system, enabled them to thrive.

“We are excited to continue our adventure with Grindstone and are grateful for their ongoing trust in Locstat. We are well on our way to achieving our scaling goals, and based on recent traction, we are exceeding our own expectations and confidence in our ability to continue to bring value to our clients,” Ryno Goosen, CEO and CoFounder, said.

“We are pleased to welcome Locstat to our portfolio of investee firms, since graph-based AI processing functionality transforms data into valuable insights and is one of the fastest growing trends in the data industry. We believe Locstat will revolutionize the way businesses handle complicated challenges in real time,” Grindstone Ventures’ Managing Partner, Catherine Young, stated.

Grindstone Ventures, a freshly created female-led fund with SASME Fund as the fund’s first Limited Partner, now has six portfolio firms, including AgrilogiQ, Welo Health, Matter Industries, Drive to Own, Sticitt, and Locstat.

According to Ketso Gordhan, CEO of the SA SME Fund: “We decided to back this fund because we believe it would cover a critical vacuum in the post-seed market. As a fund, it is as forward-thinking as the entrepreneurs it will support. We are pleased about the possibility and influence that the team will have in this area because they are highly experienced and have an established track record. Keep an eye on this.”
