Impact Amplifier Currently Accepting Applications For $1M Africa Online Safety Fund

Attention all organizations working to enhance online safety in Sub-Saharan Africa: Impact Amplifier is pleased to announce that the Africa Online Safety Fund (AOSF) is now accepting applications! This opportunity is aimed at addressing the online safety challenges facing Africa, with a focus on SA, Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.

Administered by Impact Amplifier on behalf of Google.org, the AOSF was initiated in 2020 to support innovations around privacy, trust, and safety for families online. With a generous $1 million fund available, the AOSF is seeking transformative, maturing, and catalytic solutions to this pressing issue.

The transformative category offers grants of up to $50,000 (R900,000) for scalable solutions that reach multiple geographies and/or large numbers of beneficiaries. For those testing ideas at a larger scale, trying new ideas within existing projects, or reaching new audiences, the maturing category offers grants of up to $25,000 (R450,000). Smaller, more targeted initiatives that may be locally or culturally specific can apply for the catalytic category, which provides grants of up to $10,000 (R180,000).

In the first phase of the programme, the AOSF supported 26 social innovators from nine African countries. However, a more comprehensive approach was deemed necessary to address the complexity and depth of the issue. In this second phase, the AOSF aims to tackle online safety challenges in Africa at an ecosystem level, which includes various strategies, as noted in their statement.
