Orange Digital Center For Central Africa Opens In Cameroon

The telecommunications provider Orange Cameroon, and the German cooperation have launched an ecosystem totally dedicated to the development of digital skills and innovation in Doula, Cameroon ’s economic capital. “Orange Digital Center is a platform for creativity and unpublished learning that offers its retirees free digital skills development and support in the launch of their businesses,” Orange noted in a statement.

Here Is What You Need To Know

  • Orange states that this 6th center is part of the other 32 centers to be deployed in Africa. 
  • According to the company, this 600-square-meter center will include four major programs, namely a coding school; Orange Fab; a solidarity Fablab; and Orange Ventures, a startup investment fund.
  • All of these programs are free and available to the public, and they vary from digital youth training (90 percent of which is practical), to project leader assistance, to start-up acceleration and investment, according to a statement from the company.

“In addition, the Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon signed a Framework Agreement with Orange Cameroon for the digital transformation of eight state universities. Each university in the region will have an Orange Digital Center Club, which will provide more access and support to the best uses of new technologies,” the statement further stated.

  • In this digital center, Orange Cameroon sees a project “considered to be an accelerator” of its contribution to “inclusive and sustainable development” in Africa and the Middle East to “promote digital training and enhance the employability of young people,” the statement further read. 
  • Eight Orange Digital Centers have already opened in Tunisia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Jordan, Morocco, and Mali. Other openings are planned for the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 in other countries.
