Arunmah Oteh Resigns from Ecobank Transnational Incorporated in New Board Changes

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, ETI the Lomé-based parent company of the Ecobank Group, has announced changes to the composition of its Board and also the resignation of former World Bank Vice President Ms. Arunma Oteh. According to the Bank, Ms. Oteh who is currently an academic scholar at the St. Anthony’s College and Executive-in-Residence at Said Business School, University of Oxford has resigned from the Board to focus on other personal commitments.

The new appointments are Dr. Georges Agyekum Nana Donkor has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director to replace Mr. Bashir Mamman Ifo as the representative of Ecowas Bank for Investment & Development (EBID) on the Board of ETI. Dr. Donkor was recently appointed President of EBID following the retirement of his predecessor Mr. Bashir Ifo. Dr. Donkor is a Lawyer, Banker and Marketing Consultant with over twenty-five years’ experience in Senior Management capacities across several fields such as Finance, Strategic Management, Marketing, Legal, Compliance and Administration.

The Board also announced the appointment of Mrs. Zanele Monnakgotla as a Non-Executive Director and nominee of the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) of South Africa on the Board. Mrs. Monnakgotla has over 20 years’ public and private sector experience in Structured Finance and Strategy. She is replacing Dr. Daniel Matjila who resigned from the ETI Board when he left his role as Chief Executive Officer of PIC.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Ecobank Transnational International (ETI) Mr. Emmanuel Ikazoboh, “we must first of all, sincerely express our appreciation to Mr. Ifo and Dr. Matjila for their contributions on the Board and their tireless dedication to the Ecobank Group. We know that they will always remain members of the Ecobank family. As we formally bid them farewell, I do warmly welcome, both Dr. Donkor and Mrs. Monnakgotla and believe that their respective expertise would be most beneficial to the Board.” The Chairman and the Board thank Ms. Oteh for her valuable contributions and extend their very best wishes as she dedicates herself to other commitments.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Appoints Deepak Malik to its Board

With the recent acquisition of 14.1 percent equity stake in Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) by Arise B.V., the company has appointed its representative Mr. Deepak Malik to be co-opted to the Board of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), the parent company of the Ecobank Group as a Non-Executive Director.

Deepak Malik joins the ETI Board of Directors as a nominee of Arise B.V. following its purchase of shares previously held by IFC and the funds managed by the IFC Asset Management Company in August 2019.

Since January 2017 Deepak Malik has been the Chief Executive Officer of Arise, whose core mandate is to partner with sustainable financial services providers to advance financial inclusion in Africa. Prior to joining Arise, Mr. Malik was part of the management team at Norfund, a Development Finance Institution where he fulfilled the positions of Head of the Southern Africa Office and Head of Department, Financial Institutions, for over 13 years. In these roles he had overall responsibility for Norfund’s financial institutions portfolio in the Southern Africa region, Central America and South Asia.

Mr. Malik has also been the Regional Representative of the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), which is the Danish Government’s investment arm for developing countries, Managing Director of the Development Bank of Zambia and has held senior executive positions at Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines. He is currently on the Board of Directors of various financial institutions.

Mr. Malik is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, India, and has a Bachelors’ Degree in Commerce (Honours) from the University of Delhi, India.

ETI also announces that Mr. Monish Dutt, who was nominated by IFC, has resigned as a Director of ETI and the Board of ETI expresses its gratitude to him for his contributions to ETI while in office.
