Kenyan Biotech Startup Ecodudu Raises $540k In New Funding
Ecodudu, a Kenyan startup that enables more people in Africa to access agricultural inputs (fertiliser and protein) through a circular value chain, has raised $540K in a round led by Truvalu, with participation from German-based GreenTec Capital Partners, Mauritius-based ShEquity, and Italian-based Opes-Lcef.
“We’re thrilled to have such mission-aligned partners on board to help us accelerate our journey to scale and generate more value for our clients faster. A heartfelt welcome to our new allies who have joined us on this adventure. We are merely getting started, “said the startup in a startup.
“I am super excited about this investment into Ecodudu! There is no doubt that our future depends on how much we invest in building a sustainable living whereby we don’t harm the environment while building wealth. The challenge Ecodudu is addressing is a global challenge and it is about the future of humanity! Kudos again to the team, and at ShEquity, we look forward to working with the team to grow and scale this impactful and sustainable business.” Pauline Koelbl, ShEquity Founder & MD, said.
A Look At What Ecodudu Does
Ecodudu was founded in 2018 by Dr. Starlin F. and Adan M. The company converts waste into value. The black soldier fly is used in a unique innovation to recycle organic waste into high-protein animal feed and organic fertiliser. The startup uses insects (nature’s recycling agents) to address global concerns such as waste management, protein demand, and environmental conservation.

“We saw that inputs prices across Africa are rising while the value chain has still remained unchanged. We are looking to using innovations to support this sector. We’re building Ecodudu to ensure all farmers get access to quality and affordable inputs without worrying about it’s sustainability,” the company added.
