Toyota Tsusho Invests In Kenyan Solar Firm OFGEN
Toyota Tsusho has announced that its subsidiary CFAO Kenya Limited has made an investment in OFGEN Limited (“OFGEN”), a Kenya-based provider of solar energy solutions. To attain carbon neutrality, Toyota Tsusho will push efforts aimed at growing the use of renewable energy in Africa.
OFGEN was created in 2014 and provides solar power EPC* and power to commercial and industrial enterprises. The corporation has expanded its operations to Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan from its base in Kenya. Through solar power projects in 24 places, the company has erected solar power plants totaling around 6.2 MW and added storage batteries totaling approximately 9.3 MWh. In the future, OFGEN intends to extend its operations into the Southern Africa region, in addition to the East Africa region.

The Toyota Tsusho Group is actively pursuing infrastructure projects to increase the use of renewable energy sources in Africa, including solar, wind, and geothermal power. The Group has built solar power systems on the roofs of its offices and facilities in each country where it expands, and it is pushing the use of renewable energy for its own power needs. Together with OFGEN, CFAO Kenya has built solar power systems on the roofs of four offices in Kenya and two offices in Uganda, converting approximately one-third of its power use to renewable energy.

Based on the “WITH AFRICA FOR AFRICA” principle, the Toyota Tsusho Group wants to grow with the people and communities of Africa and to increase the use of renewable energy in order to provide future generations with a better global environment.
