African Union and Four European Countries To Organize A Startup Hackathon
African Union, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg and Poland are organizing the EU-Africa hackathon. The purpose of this event is to seek solutions to Africa’s socio-economic problems. These have been amplified by the onset of the current health crisis and require urgent attention.
Estonian startup Garage48 and the Smart Africa network are also helping out. The hackathon will take place online, from December 10 to 13, 2020. It is open to individual and group applications from visionaries, developers, designers, marketers, entrepreneurs, engineers and any socially active person.

The organizers hope to engage 10,000 tech savvy and socially aware participants, 300 mentors and at least 100 community building organizations from the EU and Africa, “the Estonian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Garage48 (Estonia) has been organising hackathons and other entrepreneurship focused programmes for more than 10 years. The current program builds on the experience of #hackthecrisis global movement and The Global Hack. On 9–12 April 2020 more than 10 000 participants from 98 countries joined The Global Hack to fight the pandemic. Dozens of the solutions that came out of the #hackthecrisis events have been implemented in real life already.
