A Chance For East African Startups To Apply For World Bank’s e-Health Challenge

Are you a startup in East Africa, providing internet-enabled solutions in any of the regional countries’ health sectors? The World Bank through its private agency, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) wants you to apply to be connected with patients and healthcare providers in the East African region. The programme which is called the TechEmerge Health programme will match all ehealth innovators with more than 20 leading private healthcare systems in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia that have already signed up to the programme.

Here Is All You Need To Know

  • The World Bank is looking for new technologies related to patient engagement, clinical records and data analytics, point of care diagnostic tools and quality management, among others.
  • It will invite selected innovators to meet participating TechEmerge healthcare providers in East Africa to discuss opportunities to pilot their solutions and commercialise their technology.

Any Funding, Or Just A Meetup?

  • The World Bank through IFC will provide, among many other things, support to the East-African e-health innovators during the market-entry and tech transfer process, mitigating financial and operational risks associated with market entry and reducing adoption risks for local healthcare providers. 
  • Again once selected, innovators will receive support and grant funding from the World Bank ‘s TechEmerge team to pilot their e- health innovations in the East African market, with the ultimate goal of wider commercial deployment of the technology to improve healthcare delivery.
