African Agritech Startups Invited To Apply For Pitch AgriHack Competition

AGRF and Heifer International have launched the seventh edition of the Pitch AgriHack competition. As the name suggests, this is a pitch competition dedicated to startups operating in the field of agricultural technologies. For Africa only, it will give participants the chance to win up to $1.5 million.

Pitch AgriHack 2021 focuses on accelerating entrepreneurial growth and job creation in the agricultural sector. This, by leveraging advanced technologies and the participation of young people in Africa’s food security agenda. The competition has two parts, one open and the other by invitation only.

The open competition portion will support companies that drive innovation in agriculture in three categories: early stage, maturity / growth stage and female led, with prizes totaling $45,000. The biggest prize is up for grabs in the invitation-only game.

Known as the AYuTe Africa Challenge and sponsored by Heifer International, it will award up to $1.5 million in grants to scalable businesses that are already generating measurable impact for African smallholder farmers.

By invitation only, six winners will be chosen from the open submission categories and two winners from the AYuTe Africa Challenge category. The winners will be announced at the AGRF Summit, which will be held in Nairobi from September 7 to 10.
