Climate Crop Ltd., which specialises in the use of gene editing technologies to boost the potential of plants to capture more energy, store more carbon, and produce higher yields, has announced an investment by UM6P Ventures.
Global warming and the current climate catastrophe are having an influence on plant growth and crop productivity all over the world. Climate change endangers agricultural systems, food security, and human nutrition.
The purpose of gene editing technology is to create high-yielding crops that are more adaptable, survive, and grow faster. Climate crop solutions will boost food production, grain and industrial material supply, while also increasing carbon sequestration and helping to offset the impact of climate change on agriculture.

They will specifically use the cash to focus their gene editing technology on potato and tomato crops, which dominate the Moroccan terrain and are important to the African continent’s food supply. In fact, potatoes have surpassed wheat as the world’s third most significant food crop in terms of human consumption. Climate Crop now has access to Africa’s vast agtech ecosystem as well as the African market.
“We are actively seeking investments in startups that address an important topic such as climate change and its impact on the global food supply, security, and sustainability. UM6P Ventures’ network of scientific experts and our partners’ state-of-the-art infrastructure will work hand in hand to accelerate the technology maturity of Climate Crop’s solution and its entrance into the commercial market,” said Othman Chraibi, Chief Investment & Operations Officer, UM6P Ventures
Climate Crop will get both cash funding and scientific support from UM6P Ventures in order to capitalise on this remarkable potential. Climate Crop will have access to the UM6P university infrastructure, including the experimental farm’s research and development facilities and scientific specialists. Furthermore, they will be linked to our huge ecosystem of partners and investors, which includes VC funds, acceleration partners, agtech enterprises, and stalwarts from Morocco and around the world.

Climate Crop will take benefit of our subject matter support package, which includes scientific collaboration between both organisations to design the R&D roadmap for gene editing and plant transformation initiatives, as part of the scientific support system supplied by UM6P Ventures. Climate Crop will be able to develop their technology maturity from the lab to a large-scale prototype by getting greenhouse space and facilities. UM6P Ventures will also collaborate with Climate Crop to establish a presence in the United States, beginning with a subsidiary in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
“The extensive scientific support system available from UM6P Ventures, coupled with capital investment, will help Climate Crop maintain its foothold in the gene editing food market and positively impact crop production and the world’s food supply.” — Yehuda Borenstein, CEO & Founder, Climate Crop, Ltd.
UM6P Ventures is the university’s investment arm, intended to encourage entrepreneurship and accelerate scientific innovation in Morocco and Africa.
